The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) has announced a new Expert Partnership with Kynekt ID, a digital platform designed to help construction professionals protect and track their equipment.
Launched in 2025 by James Murdoch MCIOB after he experienced tool theft while working in the trade, Kynekt ID enables construction workers to create a digital inventory of their equipment by registering items through their smartphone camera.
The platform’s Trak function allows users to monitor equipment, track stolen items and disable registered inventory. The company says maintaining a live digital record of tools can help deter theft and support faster insurance claims.
Amanda Pilgrim, associate director – company engagement at CIOB, said the partnership would help Chartered Companies reduce risk and improve equipment management.
“James Murdoch MCIOB has taken a very real challenge facing contractors and turned it into a practical, forward-thinking solution,” she said. “Kynekt ID offers companies a way to protect, track and manage their equipment more effectively, while giving their teams greater peace of mind.”
Tool theft remains a significant issue for construction workers, with stolen equipment causing financial losses, project disruption and delays for businesses and individuals.
