If you think of yourself as a bit of a photographer and are passionate about the built environment, then the CIOBs Art of Building competition could be the perfect platform to show off your talent.
It doesn’t matter if you own the latest Leica or are a dab hand at smartphone photography, the competition is free to enter and open to anyone over the age of 18 from any part of the world. Entrants can take part by uploading their photographs to the competition website from 13 October until 23 November 2014.
The winning photographer will scoop a cash prize of £3,000.
The competition is now in its fifth year. Each year thousands of professional and amateur photographers take part inspired by the built environment and capturing it in thought-provoking and imaginative ways.
The CIOB’s Saul Townsend commented: “The breadth of photography we see is amazing. From those who are revealing a little known building to those showcasing a familiar icon in a new light.”
“Last year Kirsten Quist and her photojournalistic style switched voters onto the serious issue of forced child labour in India. It was a fantastic example of the power of photography and its ability to tell a story in any language.”
This year, the judging panel includes broadcaster, photography critic and editor, Sue Steward; award-winning photographer Matt Wain, and Elaine Knutt editor of Construction Manager magazine.
The three judges will shortlist the entries to 15 finalists, and the overall winner is then decided by public vote.
Up to three photographs per person may be entered into the competition across the categories. Entries can be digitally enhanced or altered, but must be submitted via the website in a JPEG format, with a file size of between 2Mb and 8Mb per photo. Entries will not be accepted if they are embedded with borders or locks.
