A wood substitute building product made from industrial potato waste has won its inventor a £15,000 award from the Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Hub.
Chip[s] Board was devised by Rowan Minkley and is made from industrial potato waste and is designed to be an eco-friendly alternative to MDF.
The product is made from waste potato peelings created from food processing, which is refined before being turned into “robust” boards which can be used for furniture or construction products. At the end of its lifespan, Chip[s] Board can be sent to industrial compost and turned into fertiliser.
