Architect Falconer Chester Hall’s render of the Lexington in Liverpool (Falconer Chester Hall)
Chinese contractor BCEGI has been appointed to build a £90m, 34-storey residential tower in Liverpool, called The Lexington, by build-to-rent developer MODA Living.
Designed by Falconer Chester Hall architects, the tower overlooks Liverpool waterfront, and is part of Peel Land and Property’s £5bn Liverpool Waters regeneration project which will see the creation of five new neighbourhoods.
The Lexington marks BCEGI’s first major residential project in Liverpool after it began working in the UK in 2013 on the £800m Manchester Airport City business district. BCEGI stands for Beijing Construction Engineering Group International.
Upon opening scheduled in 2021, the Lexington will have 325 apartments for rent, ranging from studios to three-bedroom properties.
It will have a 17th floor sky lounge, gym and roof gardens.
Zheng Xiyuan, the consulate general of the People’s Republic of China in Manchester, said: “BCEGI has a well-earned reputation as global construction company with a long track record of the successful delivery of projects like The Lexington.
“Their team are already delivering fantastic projects in the North West with exceptional results for their clients. I look forward to seeing a closer China-UK relationship bringing prosperity to the people of the region.”
An official groundbreaking ceremony took place yesterday, BCEGI said in a press release.
Yu Dongwen, lead director at BCEGI, said: “We are extremely proud to be appointed by MODA to deliver The Lexington. It is a flagship development that will significantly contribute to the huge transformation of Liverpool Waters. We are looking forward to building our first project in Liverpool.”
