Luton Town Football Club has appointed the Turkish contractor behind the redevelopment of FC Barcelona’s Spotify Camp Nou for its new stadium project.
Limak International and Luton Town have agreed a pre-construction services agreement (PCSA) after a “robust tender process” overseen by Atkins Realis where the club received “multiple, high-quality bidders”.
Luton Town received planning approval in January to build a new 25,000-capacity stadium in the heart of the town centre.
The PCSA is a pre-contract period leading to a full construction management agreement, which means both Luton Town and Limak International share project responsibility.
The football club said this will allow it to be “as hands-on as possible” and have control over completion and design, including the appointment of “more local” subcontractors.
‘Global perspective with local delivery’
Limak International is a subsidiary of Ankara-based construction and engineering conglomerate Limak Holding.
The contractor was recently awarded a $5.6bn contract as part of a consortium for the Dubai Metro Blue Line, three contracts as part of the NEOM Project in Saudi Arabia and the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge in Turkey, the world’s longest mid-span suspension bridge.
Luton Town wants the new Power Court stadium to be “one of the most environmentally friendly” stadia built in the country and “perhaps Europe”.
Piling works are expected to start this summer for completion in time for the club’s first full season in 2028/29.
Gary Sweet, chief executive of Luton Town FC, said: “This is a transformative opportunity for the club, helping us realise our ambitions to be a Premier League club again one day. We are united with the supporters on the need for a new stadium to move our Luton Town forward and we are delighted to be moving into this exciting construction phase.
“Importantly, this new stadium project roots us in our community, bringing jobs and investment as part of the wider regeneration of the area. Partnering with a company of Limak’s international standing offers us a global perspective with local delivery. We will collaborate closely with them to ensure the stadium reflects the spirit and needs of the community.”
Gokalp Kahraman, regional director for the UK and Western Europe at Limak International, said: “Following a competitive tender process, we’re delighted to enter this first phase of the new Power Court development. Limak will offer its technical expertise and international experience to guide the project’s early stages and prepare the recruitment of a best-in-class team of trade contractors. We’re incredibly excited to work with the Club and its partners to bring its ambitious and impressive vision to life.”
