London’s iconic 158m BT Tower will be showcasing its famous panoramic revolving views of London to over twice as many visitors this year with the announcement that they will be doubling capacity to over 800 people for the two-day annual event, which opens over 700 of the capital’s buildings to the public.
Highlights of the event, which will be on the weekend of 17-18th September are boat tours along to the Thames Barrier and beyond, organised by the Institution of Civil Engineers, as well as site visits to Blackfriars station, Crossrail, and London Bridge. The Landscape Institute have also teamed up with Open City to open 50 new city landscape sites to the public.
Commenting on the event Victoria Thornton, Director of Open House said that the event showed how design contributes to making a city liveable, adding ‘it’s the best way to get under the skin, become more knowledgeable and engage in the dialogue about the capital’s architecture.’
Beside major government and Civil Service buildings will be groundbreaking new housing developments, private homes and eco, zero carbon and retrofit buildings, all as part of this year’s ‘liveable city’ theme.
Tours of the London 2012 Olympic Park will be occurring a week earlier on the 10-11th September. People wishing to attend any of the events should go to www.openhouselondon.org.uk <http://www.openhouselondon.org.uk/> for more information.
