BRE Academy is set to partner with the Building Research Association of New Zealand, known as BRANZ, to offer BIM training in New Zealand.
BRANZ, which is owned and directed by New Zealand’s construction industry, will act as a host partner for the BRE Academy, which will be sending training personnel to New Zealand to teach its BIM International foundation course.
The course will cover topics including: what BIM is; where BIM has been successfully used internationally; and information management and project life cycles. Delegates will receive information on relevant national and international standards, methods and procedures to help them implement BIM Level 2.

The New Zealand course is the latest international BIM training offering from the BRE Academy, which also teamed up with Dubai-based sustainability consultancy Alpin earlier this year to deliver training in the Middle East.

The course forms part of a BIM education programme being delivered in New Zealand by its the BIM Acceleration Committee.
This nationwide alliance of industry and government was established in February 2014 to coordinate efforts to increase the use of BIM in the country, and is partially sponsored by BRANZ.
Andrew Reding, chair of the New Zealand BIM Acceleration Committee, believes that industry training is vital to BIM: “This is an opportunity to bring international knowledge and expertise to New Zealand and increase the understanding of the benefits and application of BIM among building industry professionals in this country.
“While BIM adoption is rising quickly in New Zealand, high-quality training will enable us to further raise awareness of BIM and encourage its adoption among a wide range of industry professionals.”
According to its website, BRANZ is an independent and impartial research, testing, consulting and information company providing resources for the building industry.
It benefits from New Zealand’s Building Research Levy Act 1969, which means that contractors are levied to provide money for research into improved techniques and materials for use in the building industry.
Under the act, 0.1% of the contract value of every construction project exceeding $20,000 put forward for building consent in New Zealand is payable by the builder to the Building Research Association of New Zealand.
