Balfour Beatty’s Dubai-based JV Dutco Balfour Beatty (DBB) has won a $352m contract from Emaar Properties to expand the Dubai Mall, the world’s largest shopping mall.
The project involves building a new ‘Fashion Avenue’ running between the existing mall, built by DBB six years ago, and the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa.

The extension will increase the malls annual capacity to more than 100 million visitors.
Balfour Beatty CEO Andrew McNaughton said, “The Middle East is a growth region for the Group and we are very pleased to continue our partnership with Emaar Properties on the development of downtown Dubai which builds on the original construction of the Dubai Mall.”

DBB will also provide additional access bridges, parking facilities, and coordination with new and existing tenants.
At its peak, the project will employ over 2,000 operatives in the region and is due for completion in early 2016.
The works will be carried out in a joint working agreement with Balfour Beatty’s Dubai based mechanical and electrical contractor, BKGulf. Balfour Beatty is a 49% joint venture partner in both DBB and BKGulf.
The win follows other recent major contract awards in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
