Autodesk has made its cloud-based collaboration service available in the UK, and globally, for the first time, giving design and construction teams access to BIM project data in the cloud.
A360 Collaboration for Revit is a subscription service that allows team members using Revit software, in all disciplines from multiple companies or work sites, to access and work in BIM project data in the cloud.
Autodesk’s collaborative data environment, offers an alternative to existing products or workarounds for sharing models, such as FTP sites, sharing software, or email.

Released in December 2014 in the US and Canada, A360 Collaboration for Revit is now available in the rest of the world, including the UK.
According to Autodesk, the collaboration service is tightly integrated with the Autodesk A360 cloud-based service which allows teams to access Autodesk software on mobile devices and tablets.
Team members, such as clients, that do not have Revit software but want visibility to the project status, can use the new service to view, search, and socially interact on models.
Collaboration for Revit also includes a chat tool that allows project team members to communicate directly with each other, in real-time, within the project models.
A designer in any location can chat with other team members and attach files, images, or Revit screen captures. Using real-time chat within project models can help designers stay in touch and know instantaneously who is working in the model and what they are doing.
According to Leo Gonzales, a BIM manager at Washington DC-based practice Newman Architects, a firm that has been using the product, centralised access to project data contributes to more efficient collaboration whether within a firm or for projects involving remote participants.
In a press release, Gonzales said: “Collaboration for Revit provides us greater flexibility. If they’re on the road, at a job site, or just working from home, our users can access their Revit projects as if they’re sitting in one of our offices.”
Kal Houhou, director of technology at Martinez + Johnson Architecture, added: “Communicator makes it easy for our designers to collaborate and communicate with each other, and without leaving their design environment. They don’t have to open their email or pick up the phone. They can stay engaged in their design environment and the design process.”
In addition, integration with A360 enables project participants to view models, even on a mobile device without the use of Revit software.
