Contractor Ardmore has been appointed to build the UK’s tallest traditional masonry tower, as part of a new student accommodation development in London.
The new tower will stand 31 storeys high.
Ardmore will deliver the main works at 140 Wales Farm Road, a new hall of residence in North Acton with 600 student rooms and 85 private residential units, for client Imperial College.
The £100m project involves the redevelopment of part of the former Perfume Factory site.
The scheme comprises 603 studio and twin bedrooms (729 beds) together with warden units, arranged over nine to 31 storeys.
The development also includes 85 private rented residential units extending up to 10 storeys.
Ardmore’s managing director, Cormac Byrne, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed as the main contractor for this important project. I am especially pleased that Imperial College have shown such confidence in us to deliver one of their most prestigious schemes.
“140 Wales Farm Road will be the tallest traditional masonry tower in the UK, and its unique design provides several challenges; not least providing external facade access at 31 storeys via an innovative climbing screen.
“We look forward to working with Imperial College and their team to tackle these challenges head on and deliver some of the best student accommodation in London.”
