App launched for digitising equipment inspections

An app that digitises routine equipment inspections has been launched.

The app, developed by CoreRFID, enables users to replace paper checklists with a digital system that, the company claims, improves compliance with safety regulations, provides greater transparency and creates a complete audit trail.

Users can create customised checklists for any type of equipment. They are then guided through the process to ensure routine inspections are always thorough and consistent. The data is securely logged, and any defects are instantly reported to the maintenance team to enable prompt action.

Initial results from trial users suggest that early detection can not only improve safety, but can also extend equipment life and reduce damage costs by 12%-18%, CoreRIFD said. Clients have also reported stronger accountability and a visible improvement in safety culture.

Benefits of pre-use checks

Pre-use checks are a best practice requirement under PUWERand a legal requirement under LOLER, but they are often overlooked in practice.

CoreRFID managing director, Munzi Ali, said: “Companies are aware of the need for formal equipment inspections at regular intervals. In some ways, though, pre-use checks are even more important. These smaller, more regular inspections, often carried out by the user, can pick up damage and faults as soon as they occur.”

He added: “Pre-use checks are an essential practice that prevent accidents and protect lives. We set out to create a practical safety tool that could transform the way teams handle daily equipment inspections in companies of all sizes. The new app engages operators, strengthens the safety culture and helps drive higher standards across industry.”
