The grim fallout of Carillion’s collapse continued today as the Official Receiver said a further 452 employees would be let go.
This adds to the 377 redundancies announced on Friday (2 February).
The government’s Official Receiver said it had saved 100 jobs linked to public sector contracts, but 452 jobs in private-sector functions could not be maintained.
“As part of the ongoing liquidation of the Carillion group, we have reviewed additional public and private sector contracts, as well as core divisions of the business,” a spokesman said.
“We can confirm that we have safeguarded a further 100 jobs and these roles are linked to public sector contracts. Most staff will be transferring on existing or similar terms, something I will continue to facilitate wherever possible as we work to find new providers for Carillion’s remaining contracts.
“Unfortunately, 452 posts are being made redundant. They cover a variety of roles connected with private and public contracts across different parts of the country, as well as back-office functions.”
The spokesman said: “Jobcentre Plus’ Rapid Response Service stands ready to support any of these employees by providing advice and information so people can move into a new job as quickly as possible. People who have been made redundant will also be entitled to make a claim for statutory redundancy payments.”
