AHR has become the first architectural practice to be certified as compliant with PAS 1192:2 by business standards company BSI.
The verification by BSI was carried out during the course of March this year and acknowledges the practice’s capability in delivering BIM Level 2 projects, as defined by PAS 1192-2:2013, BS 1192-4:2014 and BS 1192:2007.
Andy Butterfield, global head of construction, product certification at BSI, said: “It’s great to see that AHR is committed to being compliant with the requirements for PAS 1192-2 covering design and construction for Level 2 BIM and that the scheme is continuing to gather momentum.”

The architecture practice joins contractors BAM Construct, Skanska, Balfour Beatty, Bechtel, Volker Fitzpatrick, Mace and Brookfield Multiplex, which have all been verified by the standards body since it launched its certification last December.
The companies are part of a growing trend for contractors, architects, engineers and consultants to seek out accreditation, with BRE, Lloyd’s Register and Ocean Certification also offering accreditation schemes.
Talking to BIM+ Joe Stott, BIM manager at AHR, explained that he expects to see a large number of architects following AHR’s lead and gaining accreditation over the next year.
“We suspect that the BSI verification scheme will certainly attract a lot of attention from other architectural practices over the coming year as it offers those who are truly committed to the adoption of BIM an opportunity to have their approach PAS 1192-2 vetted and verified,” said Stott.
“Working through the PAS 1192 documentation is not easy and not something that I would recommend is done in isolation,” he continued. “I imagine there are a lot of companies out there struggling with this right now so we can only assume the BSI will be extremely busy over the coming year or so.”
Scott believes that the accreditation will assure clients that the company is BIM capable. “From a client’s perspective the BSI verification offers a high level of assurance that enables us to offer and undertake BIM services in full accordance with the current PAS 1192-2 specification,” he said.
“There is still a lot of BIM wash out there and it must be extremely difficult for clients to know what’s what – we believe the verification scheme will allow us to stand out from the crowd.”
