The building set to become the world’s tallest, when it is completed in four years, will cost £700m to build.
Developer Emaar Properties announced the price tag for the Dubai Creek Harbour tower at a London event yesterday, held with Knightsbridge agents Harrods Estates, to market apartments in the wider development.
Construction work is planned to start in July.
A final decision on the height has not yet been made, though it will be at least 832m high. This will ensure it tops the nearby Burj Khalifa, 828m high, currently the world’s tallest building.
The tower has been designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and will be part of the Dubai Creek Harbour project.
It will contain a boutique hotel, and the upper 20 floors will comprise shops, restaurants, function rooms and observation decks, with a rotating balcony at the top.
The project is intended for completion in time for Dubai’s Expo 2020 event.
Ahmad Al Matrooshi, managing director of Emaar Properties said: “Just as Burj Khalifa serves as the centerpiece of Downtown Dubai, the tower will position Dubai Creek Harbour as one of the most desired residential and leisure destinations in the city.”
