The City of York has retendered a contract to complete the refurbishment of the city’s historic Guildhall after Interserve was removed from the job earlier this year.
Interserve started work on the £9m deal to revamp the building, which dates back to the 15th century, in August last year.
The overhaul of the building included the creation of serviced offices, a cafe and a restaurant, as well as riverside access to the nearby River Ouse.
But the city council terminated the deal at the end of the first stage of a two-stage contract, with the first phase providing a detailed build specification and target cost.
As costs escalated, the council decided to revise the project and terminated its deal with Interserve.
It is now looking for a new contractor with experience of working on Grade-I-listed buildings, with work expected to start in January 2019. Further information is available in the prior information notice.
