William Hare has become the latest steel fabricator to achieve BIM Level 2 certification.
The Manchester-based outfit joins Bourne Steel and Snashall Steel Fabrications, the other members of the British Constructional Steelwork Association (BCSA) who have achieved the accreditation.
“All BCSA members have been using BIM for a considerable period of time – both BIM processes and the supporting software,” a BCSA spokeswoman told CM.
“With the requirement of Level 2 BIM for government projects coming into force this year, BCSA has been training its members to ensure they are up to date with the detailed government requirements for Level 2 BIM. Over 65% of BCSA members have completed BIM training.”
The BCSA has developed its own BIM Charter to enable members to become formally certified against the requirements of PAS91-2013 and PAS 1192-2:2013.
William Hare said that BIM, and the Tekla software it has been using, had enabled the steelwork contractor to deliver schemes more economically using lean fabrication and erection processes to achieve shorter lead times and higher quality standards.
Paul Lovatt, engineering manager at William Hare Group, said: “We have been using Tekla Structures for the best part of 20 years and it is a main component of our process. In fact, we have been using BIM processes long before the term BIM was even invented.”
