Laing O’Rourke subsidiary SunSHIFT has installed what it claims is the world’s largest modular and movable solar farm.
The 3MW installation at a silver-lead mine in Cannington, north west Queensland, Australia, is made up of 7,200 panels and covers an area the size of six football fields.
The pre-fabricated modular and moveable solar power plant has been used to “hybridise” an existing 34MW gas plant at the remote site.
SunSHIFT general manager Will Rayward-Smith said: “We have commercialised large-scale, modular and moveable solar PV technology to provide the mining sector with access to low-cost renewable energy. Our large-scale, modular and movable solar PV technology allows us to offer renewable energy to the mining sector on short-term and flexible contracts.”
