An outdoor ‘sky pool’ that will link two London residential buildings 10 storeys up in what its manufacturers claim will be a world first, has been built offsite and is undergoing final testing before it is shipped to the UK.
Over the past year teams of architects, engineers and consultants have been testing and developing the pool structure at a factory in Colorado.
The pool is entirely transparent, 25m long, 5m wide and 3m deep with a water depth of 1.2m. Designed by Arup Associates, with specialist input from Eckersley O’Callaghan and aquarium designers Reynolds, the experience is intended to be more akin to an aquarium than a pool.
The acrylic is now in its final phase of construction and is currently undergoing its testing and treatments before it shipped.
The pool is expected to arrive at the Embassy Gardens development next summer, which is wrapped around the new US embassy in Nine Elms near Vauxhall. Embassy Gardens will see the creation of nearly 2,000 new homes, bars, restaurants, and shopping space. Phase two is being delivered by EcoWorld Ballymore and phase one, which is now complete and occupied, was delivered by Ballymore Group. Phase 3, which is also under construction, includes One Embassy Gardens, the development’s flagship commercial building.
The pool will be open next summer after it is lifted and secured into place.
