A small number of activities have restarted on the Thames Tideway super sewer, after all but safety-critical and essential work was halted on the project in March.
A spokesperson for the £4.9bn project confirmed that after site-by-site safety reviews, some activities on certain sites were now underway.
“Only essential staff in limited numbers are on site to ensure we can continue following official public health guidance, including social distancing. Strict health and safety measures are in place to protect those who are continuing to work.
“We will continue to keep the situation under review based on the latest official advice and are keeping residents and communities around our sites informed,” the spokesperson said.
Tunnelling for the 25km super sewer reached the halfway line in February this year. The 12.5km stretch tunnelled so far runs from Fulham in the west and had reached Blackfriars in the City of London. In addition to the main tunnel, a 1km connection tunnel is also under construction in Wandsworth.
