Catnic’s wide cavity range of steel lintels has been specifically designed to help design teams meet the tougher expectations on U-values under the forthcoming Part L 1A 2013, by allowing for a wider cavity of up to 165mm and thicker insulation layer. It’s expected that the maximum allowable U-value under the revised Part L regulations will be as low as 0.2W/m2K, while current practice, based on a 50mm insulation layer and a 50mm cavity, is around 0.3W/m2K. www.catnic.com
Loftcaps are designed to reduce the risk of fire in lofts by separating combustible substances, such as loft insulation, from hot downlights. The product also prevents the spread of fire through the hole in the ceiling made for the downlight for up to one hour. Simply positioned over the downlight with the loft insulation laid directly on top, Aico’s product also limits draughts, improves air tightness and reduces moist air flow. www.aico.co.uk
GTEC weather defence is a water-resistant external sheathing board incorporating a protective outer layer that keeps buildings weathertight during the construction phase. With a gypsum core, it is coated in a tough, water-resistant glass mat facer in trademark magenta. It is lighter and easier to handle than conventional sheathing materials. Boards can be quickly butt-jointed and sealed to allow interior contractors to get on site. www.siniat.co.uk
