Plans have been unveiled to build four new residential skyscrapers in Manchester city centre, including one which will become the tallest building in the city.
The plans have been lodged by CQ Investments, part of the Renaker Build group of companies to build 1,400 flats on the site between Owen Street and Deansgate. The scheme will consist of four towers from 37 storeys to 64 storeys high, overshadowing Manchester’s present tallest building the Beetham Tower at 47 storeys.
Designed by Simpson Haugh & Partners, with Beetham Tower designer Ian Simpson, the towers will feature unusual inverted facades on each face of the buildings.
The project has been designed to appeal to both PRS and owner occupiers. Separate plans for two 27-storey and 35-storey towers near Deansgate Locks have also already been approved.
A spokesman for CQ Investments said: “Our proposals provide a fantastic opportunity to develop a series of landmark buildings set within a high quality public space creating a new community and attractive destination in the city centre.”
“The arrangement, range and specification of accommodation planned combined with the amenity and service provision will deliver highly desirable and important new homes to Manchester.”
Subject to planning construction work could start as early as this autumn, with completion due in 2020.
