Students signing up to become CIOB Student Members and gathering information on the opportunities available
Next summer two aspiring construction industry professionals will have the opportunity to work alongside cost and project management experts to gain hands-on experience and learn more about the industry, thanks to property and construction consultancy Gleeds.
The scheme, launched at Nottingham Trent University, aims to help close the gap between undergraduates and their first paid work opportunity. It also supports the CIOB’s Novus initiative, which seeks to inspire the next generation of talent and safeguard the future of the UK’s construction industry.
The scheme is open to all property students at the university and a shortlist of finalists will be drawn up with those selected asked to attend an assessment day at Gleeds’ Nottingham base the following month.

The two winners will be invited to join the company as paid cost and project management interns over the course of summer 2020 and work first hand on some of the region’s largest current building projects.
Bella Platts, a trainee project manager with Gleeds, recently accepted the position of CIOB Novus Nottingham chair. She put together the idea of the scheme and, with the support of Andrea Davi, CIOB Novus Nottingham vice chair, and Kathryn Parsons, CIOB Novus Nottingham University representative, the idea was brought to life, with a launch night of over 100 students.

Working with education
The Leeds and York hubs have been building partnerships with education providers across the Yorkshire region.
Working with local colleges and universities, hub members have been delivering talks on professionalism and the importance of chartership along with careers progression advice.
Plans are also being developed for guest lecture spots with some of the colleges and future events for students at Sheffield Hallam and Leeds Beckett universities.
