  1. This is great news for the young.
It’s a pity that Balfour did not care for its older employees
As part of Kevin Craven’s regime [in Balfour Beatty’s Services division] he said on various occasions that he wanted younger people in his business.
He followed this up by getting rid of directors over 50 so that he could employ 40 yr olds
The directors who were pushed out including me all over-performed on their targets.

  2. Greetings!!

I am an Indian, with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering (India) and 8 years of exposure to the profession. I am currently positioned as Quantity Surveyor in Kuwait and would like to know more about this Apprenticeship. It would be very much helpful, if you could send me more details after concluding my eligibility.

    Thanks and regards

  3. 3 Yrs part time study for an HNC I can understand I did this myself but 3 yrs to top up to an Honours degree seems a bit quick. Normally in Scotland at least an HNC will get you into stage 2 of a 4 year program so fitting 2 years full time into a 3 year part time course does raise concerns over quality.
Interested in the relationship between the employers setting the standard and the input from professional bodies, what are the standards and what topics do the courses cover and in what depth?
In principle the idea is fine, it goes back to the structured training programme I myself went through with Wimpey in the late 70s and early 80s and the concept of learning whilst earning is so much better than being saddled with £30 -40 K debt before your working life really begins. Some more info would be good though.

  4. How do I find out more information on this or get in contact with someone who can help me further?

  5. Hi Stephanie, the person to contact for further information on these opportunities is Ros Thorpe, Head of Education at the CIOB. e: [email protected]
