There was minimal growth in construction output during August, according to the latest official figures.
The Office for National Statistics recorded a 0.1% rise in output in the three months to August compared to the three months before, driven by a 0.5% rise in new work, offset by a decline in repair and maintenance work of 0.8%.
Private housing, private commercial and public new housing helped to drive the increase in new work, with rises of 1%, 0.9% and 3.6% respectively.

The decline in repair and maintenance was largely as a result of a 3.5% drop in private housing repair and maintenance, as well as a 0.2% fall in non-housing repair.
Overall, construction output rose by 0.2% month on month, driven by a 1.1% rise in repair and maintenance, offset by a 0.2% decline in new work.
Despite the relative lack of growth in August, output remained near to the record high level of output of £13,869m recorded in February 2019. While there were falls in March, April and June, they were largely offset by increases in May, July and August. August’s output sits £123m away from February’s record high.
