The new Mersey Gateway Bridge could open as early as mid-September.
This will mean the project is opening ahead of time and within budget after a three-and-a-half-year construction programme that has seen major roads re-routed and improved.
The 1,000 metre long Mersey Gateway Bridge is the centrepiece of the Mersey Gateway Project, which covers around 9km of road improvements and a series of major new junctions.
Merseylink construction consortium announced last week the date could be as early as mid-September and no later than mid-October, weather permitting.
The new road bridge across the river Mersey and the Manchester Ship Canal in north-west England, began construction in May 2014.
The bridge will be located approximately 1.5km to the east of the existing Silver Jubilee Bridge that connects the towns of Widnes and Runcorn.
The six-lane bridge is expected to cost £1.75bn.
