A man has been arrested after an incident last month when a digger, believed to have been driven by a construction worker, smashed through the entrance to a Travelodge hotel that was under construction.
Merseyside Police confirmed that a 35-year-old man from the Netherton area was arrested on Valentine’s Day on suspicion of causing criminal damage with intent to endanger life following the incident in Liverpool on 21 January.
He has also been arrested on suspicion of assault in relation to a separate incident in Broadgreen.
He is currently in custody where he will be questioned by detectives.
The digger was driven up the steps into the hotel, smashing through the glass frontage and headed for the reception desk. It is understood that the driver then drove the machine back out of the hotel before making off on foot.
The project was being overseen by main contractor Triton Construction. Triton said there was no structural damage to the hotel.
