Kwasi Kwarteng has been appointed as construction minister, after his predecessor in the role Nadhim Zahawi was handed the role of overseeing the distribution of covid-19 vaccines.
Kwarteng is already minister of state at the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and construction has been added to his ministerial portfolio, as Zahawi’s responsibilities are redistributed.
He was elected Conservative MP for Spelthorne in 2020 and has served on various parliamentary committees, including the Transport Select Committee from 2010 until 2013, the Work and Pensions Select Committee from 2013 until 2015, and the Public Accounts Committee from October 2016 to May 2017.
Hannah Vickers, chief executive of the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE), said: “I would like to welcome Kwasi Kwarteng MP to the role of Construction Minister and look forward to meeting with him as soon as possible.
“I hope he continues the effective work of his predecessor who engaged constructively with all parts of the industry throughout these extremely challenging times. The next eighteen months are almost as crucial, and when we do meet I will stress how our industry can play a key role as a catalyst for recovery, as an enabler for levelling-up and as the designers of a Net Zero future.
“I would also like to thank Nadhim Zahawi for his contribution and support of the Construction Leadership Council (CLC) which has brought the industry together during this difficult period. I am sure his successor will build on the foundations of this good work and continue in the same collaborative spirit.”

I`m sure we all wish Mr Kwarteng well in his new role but what possible use can he be ? No construction background , in fact no proper work background at all.
Eton , a Phd in History and into politics. And construction is only part of his job.
Why does the government think so little of our industry and what is the CIOB doing about it .
