This week sees the launch of an innovative new event format for the industry, with construction professionals invited to a day of networking and professional development hosted by Construction Manager and law firm Olswang.
The “CPD Live” day, taking place this Thursday 4 June, will feature eight 30-minute CPD presentations from leading voices in the industry. A limited number of places are still available.
With speakers from contractors, academia and suppliers, the day aims to provide insight into the latest thinking across several current themes, with presentations tackling management theory and techniques, industrial design, contracts negotiation, 3D printing, virtual reality and BIM.
Speakers include regular Construction Manager contributor and management consultant Trevor Drury of Morecraft Drury, and Balfour Beatty BIM director Peter Trebilcock.
Each CPD session will be followed by a short Q&A, with lunch and refreshments provided. There will also be plenty of opportunities to network with CIOB members from around the UK and the Construction Manager team.
A highlight of the day looks to be a live demonstration of both virtual and augmented reality from Dr Mallia-Parfitt, a research fellow in the Design Innovation Research Centre at the University of Reading.
Mallia-Parfitt, who can also be found presenting his portable BIM Cave to the CIOB “dragons” in this month’s CM, will present his virtual reality research in one of the morning sessions.
Future CIOB president Chris Chivers will also be at the event presenting a CPD on the management of complex contracts.

In addition, there will also be speakers from Balfour Beatty, Morecraft Drury, Wienerberger, Asta Development and Leeds Beckett University.
Places are limited so please confirm attendance as soon as possible by emailing [email protected]. Priority will be given to CIOB members so please indicate membership in your email but we do welcome non-members to our events.
The event is taking place at Olswang’s London office at 90 High Holborn, WC1V 6XX
