The new Information Management Initiative, cost control in volatile times, and kits of parts and productisation are the focus of forthcoming CPD webinars organised by BIMplus and Construction Management.

The new Information Management Initiative (IMI), launched last week by nima, replaces the existing information management mandate. It focuses on the integration of data and information across the whole lifecycle of the built and managed environment.

The IMI invites companies from across the built and the managed environment to mandate their staff to adhere to information management principles – and professional institutions to follow suit with their members.

On 21 November at 2.30pm, a representative from nima will present the key points about the IMI and explain how to get involved with the next stage of information management in the UK. He will be joined by Huw Knipe from Ideagen Mail Manager, who will focus on an often-neglected part of information management: email management.

Kits of parts and productisation

Offsite, MMC, modular construction, DfMA, kits of parts. Whichever term you prefer, they can only revolutionise construction through their common element – productisation.

Productisation aims to take construction to the next level, transforming the design, as well as production processes, by treating buildings not as one-off projects, but as an assembly of modular reuseable elements.

Our webinar on 20 November at 2pm features key exponents of kits of parts and productisation who will detail the quality, efficiency and environmental gains that can be achieved via these methods.

The speakers are:

  • Dale Sinclair, head of innovation at WSP;
  • Tony Wells, CEO of Merit;
  • Karun Chakravarthy, architecture, engineering and construction value expert at Dassault Systèmes; and
  • James Brown, head of digital manufacturing at Prodtex.

Managing cost control

Cost volatility is a clear and present danger wherever you are in the construction supply chain. Our webinar on 28 November at 11am will tackle the issue of mastering cost control in such volatile times. A panel of three experts will share their advice.

Michael Cracknell, director of real estate at Turner & Townsend, will deliver the current economic and cost fluctuation outlook, and introduce key ways of controlling costs.

Alex Hall, head of solutions engineering at Access Coins, will focus on foresight versus forecasting, cashflow and costs, and ownership of change.

The third speaker is Steven James, a partner at Burges Salmon. He will discuss what levers can be pulled in construction contracts to deal with cost volatility.

The webinars are free to attend and are broadcast live. Those who watch live via their own registration link qualify for an hour’s CPD credit.

The webinars are recorded and will be available to watch on demand shortly after live broadcast.
