  1. Unfortunately, I have to disagree with this, it’s nothing to do with skills shortages, while the work ethics of the economic migrants is brilliant, and I cannot fault them for what they do or how they do it. The reason why UK construction companies large and small want them is that they will work for less money than the UK construction workers

There are already plenty of new UK trained construction workers going into the industry, however, the actual reasons I believe is purely down to cost, tighter profit margins for companies tendering for new projects are been constantly squeezed more and more and the only way that they can make a reasonable profit is to either value engineer out project cost or employ cheaper economic migrant, hence the reason why the UK homegrown construction workers are leaving the industry, because the earning potential isn’t there and why construction firms can’t/won’t train or develop new or existing construction tradesmen.

  2. That is the problem, I have been passed over for European candidates repeatedly, while trying to go permanent. I am freelance site manager and people are choosing the Europeans to fill the job. They openly admit it. I can’t complete. I will probably leave the Industry soon. I don’t get CITB training allowance. I pay for everything. I can’t go home for 3 months and claim the tax back. Something needs to change.
