  1. Brillint idea would bring a lot of employment to struggeling areas and would be great for tourisim in these areas too, need to deal with the A77 by passing Maybole etc at same time, but as far as I’m aware that is progressing at the moment.

  2. My father was employed in the transport of munitions for dumping in the Beaufort Dyke. He said that much of the material never made it to the deepest channel as it was supposed to. Instead it was dumped short of the target, closer to shore, wherever it was convenient.

  3. If we can extract oil by means of a “floating” oil rig why would it not be possible to devise a double walled “floating tunnel” set to float beneath the surface to avoid surface wave action and tethered to the bottom to achieve horizontal alignment?

  4. Oil companies never drill that deep because of cost and the construction and technical problems that would arise. (1,000ft deep + 30 support towers at least 1,400ft high to support the road deck above the deepest part and above ships).
Be realistic, it is not feasible

  5. Hong Kong Macao Zhuhai Bridge – two artificial Islands supporting a Tunnel that allows Ships to pass overhead between the two special administrative regions and the Zhuhai mainland. It is state of the art, Cameras can spot drivers yawning too much amongst other cutting edge features, it requires an issued licence to cross the 55km Bridge / Tunnel, unless travelling by Bus for the Public. As for what lurks beneath, and the depth, I’ve never thought about it. However comparing the price of the Mersey Gateway Project to the Chinese and former Colonies Bridge, it’s clear we could also be left behind by not progressing absurdly with overly ambitious projects
