New details of the design of the 2022 Commonwealth Games stadium, which will be created following a £70m revamp of the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, have been revealed ahead of a public consultation.
Mace is set to lead the redevelopment as project manager, while Arup has responsibility for the design.

The council-owned Alexander Stadium, already an international-standard athletics venue, will have its permanent seating capacity increased from 12,700 to 18,000, allowing up to 40,000 during the Games through additional temporary seating.
Meanwhile, a new western stand will be built to replace the Main, Knowles and Nelson stands, with new tiered seating to the north and south.

A new 400m, six-lane warm-up track will be built, and the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) category 1 competition track will be relaid.
New stadium lighting will also be installed and a new access road from the A453 Aldridge Road will be constructed.

Demolition of the current west stand within the stadium is subject to a separate application which will be submitted to Birmingham City Council in summer 2019.
Subject to gaining planning permission, the redeveloped stadium will be ready ahead of the Games which will take place between 27 July and 7 August 2022.
