  1. Interesting article and it probably wont suprise many people. I agree with your comments but i also think that given the current climate some of this will be attributed to cost or lack of within the tight margins companies are being asked to operate within. However that does not excuse the lack of common sense that should be used nor the lack of planning and consideration. Another factor in my mind is the ignorance that “it wont happen to me” or ” i wont get caught” Stephen sums it up very well.

  2. I agree entirly with your article about Safety on smaller construction sites. I have worked as a Site Manager in East Anglia for 2 reputable large construction companies, and although there are still some minor failings at times, it sickens me to see some of the antics that happen on smaller sites. Some of the worst I have noticed is with scaffolding, yet some of the companies who errect on the smaller sites also errect on larger ones, and wether it is cost, what they are told do, or what they can get away with, some of it is terrible, and just waiting for an accident to happen. Another area of misuse is the fork lift with a pallett on as a working platform. At times I really feel like reporting these things, but HSE are so limited in what they could follow up
