The Health & Safety Executive’s (HSE) BIM 4 Health & Safety Working Group is working with the UK BIM Alliance to develop guidance for construction clients on using BIM to improve design risk management.
The guidance note will help clients produce project information requirements (PIRs) for design risk management and is based on the protocols of BS EN ISO 19650, the international standard for managing information over the whole lifecycle of a built asset using BIM.
The guidance will also include some practical examples of PIRs to help construction clients.
The BIM 4 Health & Safety Working Group is chaired by HSE inspector Gordon Crick and includes Steve Coppin, chair of the CIOB health and safety special interest group, and Andrew Rouse, project team manager at the Environment Agency.
“The guidance aims to improve the identification of health and safety hazards and associated risks early in a project and show how these form part of the suite of information requirements in ISO 19650, where organisational information requirements (OIRs) feed into asset information requirements (AIRs), as well as PIRs, and ultimately into the delivery level exchange information requirements (EIRs),” said Crick.
The guidance is expected to be published in September 2021.
