Kelly Ayres, technical manager at Origin, on providing bespoke doors in a hurry
What was the problem?
A homeowner had ordered bi-fold doors for a new-build kitchen extension, but her door provider went bust after starting the project, leaving her with a gaping tarpaulin-covered hole in the wall for more than six weeks during a very wet summer. She needed replacement doors fast, so she contacted Origin and learned about our Your Lead Time, Not Ours (YLTNO) service which would allow her to get four different sets of white Easifold doors delivered in just a few days.
What was your approach?
We put her in touch with a local trade partner to arrange measurement and ordering. In an industry where customers typically wait six to eight weeks for delivery, YLTNO enables them to dictate when they want the doors delivered.
Origin has invested in state-of-the-art machines and has a very streamlined manufacturing process that allows us to manufacture and deliver doors all over the UK within 48 hours. Although some doors include glass and have longer lead times, about 80% of our orders are delivered within two weeks.
Every door is individually manufactured to the customer’s specification and aperture width. Several sets of standard pre-manufactured doors are also available for next day delivery. YLTNO is a free service.
Why is this service so useful for bi-fold doors?
To get an accurate measurement of a bi-fold door opening, the aperture must be cut and prepared before the doors are ordered. In most cases, this means customers have to live for several weeks with just wooden boards or tarpaulin to protect their house, making any home insurance invalid.
Any other benefits?
Long lead times adversely affect our trade partners, as waiting eight weeks for doors has a negative effect on cash flow. It also makes it difficult when planning projects to coordinate door fitting alongside other building work. The YLTNO service helps to minimise these issues.
