The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists is welcoming entries to its suite of awards: the Award for Excellence in Architectural Technology; the Alan King Award; and the Student Awards for Excellence in Architectural Technology.
The Award for Excellence in Architectural Technology recognises outstanding achievement in Architectural Technology. Submissions are invited for projects that have been completed within the last five years, and can cover the whole project or just a section of it.
Entries should include illustrations, images and written specifications or other report documentation for the project along with a written summary capturing how the project achieved excellence in terms of: functionality, buildability, performance, innovation and sustainability. The closing date for the submission of applications is 27 June 2014.
The Alan King Award, named after the Institute’s first president, recognises projects that have demonstrated outstanding excellence in the practice of Architectural Technology but are valued at £750,000 or under. The entry requirements and criteria are the same as for the main award.
In both cases, judging will take place during July and August, and may involve a site visit to the project.
The winners in each category will receive a plaque for the project, certificate and £1,500. The runner up will receive a plaque, certificate and £750, with £550 for the third placed project. The winners and awards will be announced and presented at the President’s Dinner Dance on 29 November.
The student project award is seeking submissions for university/college assignments or a live project that demonstrates architectural technology design expertise.
The Student Award for Excellence (Report) recognises outstanding research achievement, and must be for a report or academic paper based on student a dissertation or assignment.
The submission must demonstrate an a critical awareness of current technological problems, an ability to work and research independently, research methods, analysis of different data sources (primary and secondary), critiques and rational argument, and independent conclusions for specialist and non-specialist audiences.
Entrants for both student categories must be CIAT members, studying part time or full time on an undergraduate programme in Architectural Technology (or related subject) and must not hold any construction related professional qualification. The winner will receive a £750 prize.
The closing date for submissions is 25 July 2014. The winners and awards will be presented at the President’s Dinner Dance, Nottingham, on 29 November.
