A doctor from Bangladesh has scooped top prize in the CIOB’s Art of Building digital photography competition with his image of a child climbing across the arch of a bridge.
Named “Daredevil”, the photo taken by Ata Adnan was this year’s clear winner, receiving almost a third of the public votes.
The competition, now in its fifth year, is an international showcase for the very best digital photography of the built environment, and is open to both amateurs and professionals.
Amateur photographer Adnan said: “My wife is an architect and she has been a constant support throughout my photographic journey. To win such a renowned prize feels like a beautiful blend of the things that matter to us.
“I have always liked photographing architecture but particularly with a human element involved. So when I saw that child suddenly get up on top of the bridge and start to walk on it I wanted to capture the moment as best as I could.”
Along with the title of Art of Building Photographer of the Year, Adnan wins a cash prize of £3,000, a portion which he will donate to a Bangladesh charity that supports children in extreme poverty.
This year, the judging panel included photography critic, Sue Steward, award-winning photographer Matt Wain, and Tom Ravenscroft deputy editor of Construction Manager magazine.
Daredevil was shortlisted alongside 12 images from Denmark, USA, Iceland, Hong Kong, India, Spain and the UK from more than 3,000 entries.
