The costs to complete the stalled Royal Liverpool hospital have been “underestimated”, according to the NHS trust responsible for it.

- Cladding failures found on Carillion’s Royal Liverpool Hospital
Work on the hospital, originally due to cost £335m, came to a halt last year after the collapse of contractor Carillion.
Papers released ahead of a meeting today of the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals trust said it would have to find additional capital resources to complete the work.
It is working with Laing O’Rourke and Mace as well as external advisors to “review and firm up” on the actual costs to finish the hospital, although no figures have been released at this stage.
The news came after construction issues emerged on the hospital last year. A survey by Arup found that some of the cladding on the building was inadequate, while Laing O’Rourke, which was brought in to complete the project, found further remedial works were required.
Laing O’Rourke is due to provide a detailed construction programme in the New Year and will set out a timescale for handover towards the end of 2020.
