The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) is looking for new recruits to its policy board.
The role offers an opportunity for those who want to get involved in formulating policy at the CIOB and supporting work to engage and influence policymakers.
There are two vacancies and the CIOB is seeking expressions of interest, with a view to having new board members take up the role in September 2018.
The board is seeking members based in the UK or Ireland, preferably holding CIOB chartered membership, with skills or experience from a senior role within:
- A tier 1 or tier 2 contractor or sub-contractor
- An SME
- A local authority
- Academia
- Government or the civil service
An interest in policy, public affairs, campaigning and parliamentary engagement on issues around improving the built environment would be highly desirable.
The policy board is one of the CIOB’s three key operational boards. The main tasks for this board are:
- To help identify our policy and public affairs priorities
- To support work building and developing key relationships with stakeholders
- To contribute to consultation responses and content for policy related events
- To promote activity relating to CIOB research, events and policy.
Mark Beard, chairman of construction group Beard, CIOB vice president and policy board chair, said: “The policy board is a core part of the CIOB’s work in shaping and influencing the external environment. Board members will help the CIOB ensure that the built environment is one of the issues that policymakers understand and are able to make the case for, with a focus on promoting best practice in the building and construction industry for the benefit of society.”
The tenure for board members is three years and there are four meetings a year, usually in London. Members of the policy board will also be invited CIOB-led parliamentary events and roundtable policy discussions.
