Caddick Construction has secured a £10m contract to build a 24,000 sq ft extension at Loreto sixth form college in Hulme, Manchester.
The new three-storey campus building on Moss Road West will accommodate 264 students, provide 20 classrooms, a lecture theatre with a seating capacity of 200, and a study centre.
A partial refurbishment of the current college buildings is also included in the project as well as new science labs, catering facilities, and a 110 sq m outdoor covered seating area. A science garden and landscaped ‘reflection’ areas will also be created.
Air source heat pumps, solar panels, passive ventilation systems and night cooling technology will be used and 39.8% of the building’s electricity consumption will be met by renewable sources. EV charging points will be installed on campus as well as storage for 100 bikes.
Loreto College principal Michael Jaffrain said: “We are excited about the opportunities this expansion brings and to maximise our green space for biodiversity and air quality.”
The project was procured through the NHS Shared Business Services Public Sector Construction Works Framework.
