The housing association London and Quadrant Housing Trust (L&Q) has launched a process to appoint a consultant to a £2m contract bomb disposal framework.
L&Q houses 250,000 in more than 95,000 homes across London and is tendering for the provision for the unexploded ordnance survey consultancy for its new-build contracts to ensure that they comply with the Public Contracts Regulations 2015.
L&Q is expected to invite up to 10 candidates to bid as part of a two-stage tender process for the four-year deal.
More than 28,000 bombs were dropped in the Greater London alone between 7 October and 6 June 1941, according to the Bomb Sight project.
Bombs are still discovered on construction sites on a regular basis. In 2018, London City airport was closed by an unexploded WWII bomb in the nearby Docklands area.
