Mark Beard, chairman of construction group Beard, will be appointed vice president of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) on 9 July 2018. He will become the 117th President of the CIOB in 2020.
His presidency will follow on from Charles Egbu, dean of the School of the Built Environment and Architecture at London Southbank University, who will become CIOB President in 2019, and Chris Soffe CEO of Gleeds America, who will become CIOB President in July 2018.

“I am delighted to accept the opportunity of following Chris and Charles as vice president and president of the Chartered Institute of Building at a time of great challenge and change for our industry,” said Beard.
“I look forward to building on the outstanding work of CIOB past presidents, in particular, turning the excellent research carried out by CIOB Quality Commission into meaningful actions which improve the quality of the buildings we construct.”
Beard Construction has offices in Swindon, Oxford, Guildford and Bristol and operates across southern England.
The 126-year-old family-owned firm has been led by Beard since 1999, since when the business turnover has grown from £18m to £144m. He attributes Beard’s strong year-on-year growth to an “encouraging and supportive company culture, the prompt and faultless delivery of its projects, and a commitment to continuous business improvement”.
A fellow of the CIOB and a chartered environmentalist, Beard is a governor of Christ Church Cathedral School, Oxford, and a patron of Alexander Devine Hospice in Maidenhead. He also sits on the Ashmolean Museum Corporate Advisory Board, Henley Business School Advisory Board and the EEF National Economic Committee.

As the Publisher of CM just wanted to thank you for the comment John. However for those visitors to our website who might not be familiar with the CIOB’s very recent history I have to point out that last year’s President was Rebecca Thompson. And CIOB’s first female president Li Shirong was back in 2009, I believe one of the first for a professional body and certainly one of the first from China. However thanks for posting. Always good to see readers commenting.
And women are where in this process? NO female president for at least another 3 years?
