Balfour Beatty group chief executive Leo Quinn is one of a number of new appointments on the Construction Leadership Council (CLC).
Quinn has been tasked with leading the skills work stream on the CLC. Here he will work alongside the government to support its aim of creating 3 million apprenticeships by 2020, reforming apprenticeship training from recruitment through to retention. He replaces former Laing O’Rourke chief executive Anna Stewart who stepped down from the council in January.
"It is imperative that young adults are aware of the vast opportunities available to them in our industry and that, most importantly, these opportunities are accessible and provide a solid foundation for a long, successful career in the industry."
The CLC was created in 2013 and consists of a number of business leaders from across the industry. It works closely with government to identify and deliver actions supporting UK construction in building greater efficiency, skills and growth.
Among the other new appointees to the CLC are Ann Bentley, chairman at independent property and construction practice Rider Levett Bucknall and Isabel Dedring, director at Arup.
Bentley takes on the supply chain and business model work stream from former Bouygues UK chief executive Madani Sow, while Dedring will work on promoting smarter infrastructure through innovation in procurement.
Quinn said: “I am passionate about the provision of high-quality apprenticeships that provide the skills to our young people that industry demands. It is imperative that young adults are aware of the vast opportunities available to them in our industry and that, most importantly, these opportunities are accessible and provide a solid foundation for a long, successful career in the industry.”
