Consultancy Arcadis’ UK arm maintained broadly flat levels of turnover and profit in 2018 thanks to continued investment in the City of London and work to increase capacity at UK airports.
The design and asset management consultancy recorded turnover of £200.3m for the year, down from £205.6m in 2017. It made an operating profit before amortisation of £33m, up from £32.2m the year before.
That meant its adjusted operating margin in 2018 was 16.5%, compared to 15.7% in 2017.
Arcadis said that its profit increased, despite slightly lower revenue, thanks to a rise in the amount of work on contracts delivered for other entities in the UK group, which led to lower operating costs.
It added that despite Brexit, City of London investment had remained strong, with the firm involved in a number of commercial and residential property schemes. The company has also been working with its clients on increased demand for airport capacity at Manchester, Gatwick, Heathrow and Stansted.
Meanwhile, Arcadis said it was working to digitalise its business and build a workforce that made it fit for the future, with a balanced portfolio of work across buildings, infrastructure and WEESI (water, energy, environment, safety and industry).
