The 3D printer built the 46.5 sq m house in New York
The bar in housebuilding has been raised several notches with a US firm claiming to have built a 3D printed home with its Autonomous Robotic Construction System (ARCS) in New York.
S-Squared 4D Commercial, a division of S-Squared 3D Printers, developed ARCS, a patent pending 3D printing system, which allows several robotic concrete 3D printing machines to work simultaneously.
The largest house so far, at 46.5 sq m, has been built in a recent demonstration, in under 12 hours, the company said.
With the process fully automated, S-Squared 4D claims houses can be built far safer, 30 times quicker and with construction costs cut by 70%.
The firm is now planning to continue pushing the envelope of the size of house that can be built with the 3D printing technique. A 100,000 square metre building is the next big target for S-Squared 4D as it aims to ‘revolutionise the construction industry forever’.
