  1. In the past you didn’t need a certificate to enable you to work on a building site – now you do but the quality has got worse. How has this happened?

  2. Unfortunately, far too often, our industry is run by Cost Consultants and Project Managers with little practical experience, but who know the “cost of everything, but the value of little”. Cost is King.
Practical long-term experience of staff seems not to be appreciated, and older managers not listened to or respected, despite everybody claiming their experienced staff are their greatest asset. Perhaps this could be why older experienced professionals often can’t wait to retire, so taking their practical quality-appreciation & management skills with them.

  3. Now it is time to redefine quality in construction whenever the industry want to combat cost because “cost is what you pay, value is what you get.” It is time to put to work the check-engine in the construction industry – THE CLERK OF WORKS.
The counterpart in the United States of America [CONSTRUCTION QUALITY CONTROL MANAGER] makes a huge difference when construction project reach its deliverability. Project get delivered on time, within budget and of specified qualities to satisfy customer demands. It is time, the clerk of works upholds the responsibilities of construction quality control/assurance management.
The clerk of works role must be valued, understood and respected. The retired clerk of works either be put back to work or become a visiting teachers at a local vocational training schools so as to develop youngsters who will buttress the quality of works in the industry and over time the retired quality control personnel [clerk of works] will be replaced and values will eventually regain momentum in the construction industry.
